MOPAR musings Greetings, fellow Moparians, Well, here we are, snow is on the ground. Winter is around us. Car hobby activities are ground to a halt, (unless you are doing some indoors projects on your ride and are getting them ready for springtime on the roads). My Dodge cars are tucked away, so now I can go downstairs and keep my car hobby juices flowing with my HO slot car set up. As a kid, I had a slot car set that provided my brothers and I with hours of competitive entertainment. The hobby is coming back amongst guys my age. Many of my car club pals also dabble in slot cars. I told Debbie that this was for the grandkids… (Cut to Debbie, rolling her eyes, LOL) The track has 4 lanes, enough for each of them. When they come downstairs to race, their cellphones seem to be forgotten. (BIG win…). I have grown my addiction from 4 to over 50 cars in the past year and a half. Most of them are Mopar centric, most of the cars are classic or street models. I have several projects, trying to get some old cars that I found at a local toy and hobby show at MCCC, up and running, and I am customizing some others. Also, I have a few that require a total build up process from assembling parts to custom painting and tuning for optimal performance. Gee, that sounds familiar, eh? My set up has 2 seven foot straightaways in over 80’ of track and some tricky curves to slow things down. This fits on my 4 x 8 pool table These cars have to be driven, as they react like the real thing as they slide and fishtail into the corners. To keep them on the track, it is not just pedal to the metal. This new affliction, er, hobby, keeps my mind on cars and speed and fun during the doldrum months. I hope that you all have something to pursue during these down times, as well, to foster the spirit of car collecting.
